Francesco IV. Gonzaga was the first son of Eleonora de' Medici (1567-1611) and her husband Vincenzo I. Gonzaga, Duke of Mantua. He was born on 7th May 1586 and deceased on 22nd December 1612. Since 1608 he has been married to Margaret of Savoy (1589-1655), with whom he had three children, but only one survived the childhood: his daughter Maria (1609-1660).
