About her marriage and her husband, the son of Pope Innocent VIII., Franceschetto Cibo, we read the following: "The bridegroom [Franceschetto Cibo] was almost 40, a portly, boring man, who drank too much and was reputed never to have made a single interesting remark in his entire life; and Maddalena, a rather plain, sharp-featured, round-shouldered girl of 16, did not look forward to the match with relish ... besides, full, sottish, and addicted to gambling though he was, Franceschetto was said to be kind."
