In this painting Bianca Maria Visconti's son Lodovico il Moro is depicted as the Child Jesus; his elder brothers Galeazzo Maria (lower left), Filippo Maria (upper right) and Sforza Maria (upper left) and his elder sister Ippolita Maria (lower right) are shown as little saints.
This portrait was made by Fra Angelico or one of his students.
Niccolò III. d'Este worshipping the Virgin (Bianca Maria Visconti) and the Child Jesus Christ (Galeazzo Maria Sforza); in 1409 the Marquis of Este added a diamond ring to the emblems of the Sforzas, in recognition of Muzio Attendolo Sforza's triumph over the tyrant of Parma, Ottobuono Terza. The new Sforza symbol is shown during the reign of Francesco and Galeazzo Maria Sforza as three interlaced diamond rings and during the reign of Lodovico il Moro and his nephew Gian Galeazzo Maria Sforza as a whole chain of rings (or circles) (look at "Mona Lisa's" dress).
