Ginevra Sforza

Alessandro Bentivoglio

The Painting „The Engagement of Saint Cecilia and Saint Valerian“ is showing the engagement between Ippolita Sforza (seen five times on the left side) and Alessandro Bentivoglio (the fourth person on the right side) [large image]

The four Bentivoglio brothers and their parents in 1494: Annibale II. as Saint John the Baptist (on the left side), Ginevra Sforza as Saint Monica (second person on the left side) and Giovanni II. as Saint Augustine (third person on the left side), Ippolita Sforza as the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus, Antongaleazzo as Saint Francis (the third person on the right side), Alessandro as Saint George, on the right side above his brother Ermes, who is depicted as Saint Sebastian. It is likely that the praying person is Galeazzo da Sanseverino, and the girl with the lute is either his young wife Bianca Sforza or Ippolita Sforza.
